The chairman of Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Pat McCartan, has announced he is to leave the organisation at the end of December.

Mr McCartan has been chairman of the trust since 2006.

"Belfast Health and Social Care Trust is a world-class organisation and there is never a good time to go," Mr McCartan said.

"However, having been chairman for six years, I feel now is the right time."

Health Minister Edwin Poots said Mr McCartan was leaving with his gratitude.

"Through his vision, dedication and leadership he has faced and dealt with many challenges and has played a crucial role in helping the trust deliver health and social care to over 300,000 people," Mr Poots said.
