Belfast taxi driver attacked with broken bottle

A taxi driver in south Belfast has been attacked with a bottle in an attempted hijacking, the police have said.

It happened early on Thursday morning after the driver picked up two men on Tates Avenue.

They ordered him to hand over the vehicle, with one in the front seat smashing a glass bottle on the driver's face and then hitting him with it.

The driver managed to fight off the attackers, who then fled on foot. He was treated in hospital for cuts.
