Plane makes emergency landing at Dublin Airport

A plane has landed at Dublin Airport in the Republic of Ireland after crew reported the smell of smoke in the cabin.

More than 150 passengers and crew were on board the United Airlines flight which landed safely at about 14:30 BST.

It was travelling from London Heathrow to Washington when it was forced to make an unscheduled stop.

The plane was met by emergency services on an isolated part of the runway away from the terminal building.

United Airlines said Flight UA131 from London Heathrow to Washington/Dulles, a Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 147 passengers and a crew of nine on board, was diverted to Dublin Airport due to a mechanical issue.

An airline spokesperson said their maintenance team was currently inspecting the aircraft.
