Crossgar Foodservice to cut almost 60 jobs
Almost 60 jobs are set to be cut at a food supply firm in County Down.
Crossgar Foodservice supplies products to the catering industry.
Following a restructuring, the firm is closing its meat production facility in Downpatrick, which is likely to result in 19 compulsory redundancies.
It is also seeking up to 40 voluntary redundancies among warehouse and administration staff. It is selling its poultry business, which will see 46 employees transfer to a new company.
Crossgar Poultry, part of Crossgar Foodservice, has been sold to Lissara Farm Ltd, which is owned and managed by Paul Bell. Mr Bell's family were the former owners of Crossgar Foodservice.
In a statement, Crossgar Foodservice said it was "consolidating aspects of its business with that of its parent, Pallas Foods".
The County Down company, based in the village of Seaforde, will now trade as Crossgar Pallas.
The statement said the move was aimed at "streamlining the supply chain" and added that the reorganisation would create seven full-time jobs "in the short-term".
Its customers in the catering industry include restaurants, hotels, hospitals and schools.
The firm's statement said: "While some redundancies are regrettably unavoidable, measures announced align the Northern Ireland business of Crossgar Foodservice with its parent company's core area of expertise, food service distribution.
It added: "The business's commitment to Northern Ireland continues to be strong with a guarantee to continue to source local products."
