Brian Davey found guilty on five charges of sexual assault

A man has been found guilty of five counts of sexual assault, including two of rape.

Brian Davey, 22, from Lineybrook Cottages in Bangor, County Down, was also convicted on one count of theft.

The jury at Belfast Crown court had heard that Davey had invited himself to a woman's home and that his repeated advances were rejected.

The woman later awoke to find Davey carrying out the first of the five assaults.

Davey left the house but was arrested within a short time after police had been alerted and his description circulated.

When police searched him, they found his victim's stolen silver watch in his pocket.

Davey gave evidence on his own behalf, claiming that his victim had instigated sex and had consented at all times.

Davey was remanded into custody. Sentencing was adjourned until next month when pre-sentence probation reports have been compiled.
