Austerity behind drop in rankings for Irish universities

Austerity measures in the Republic of Ireland are being blamed for a fall in the standing of most Irish universities, according to QS.

The QS league table of top universities in the world shows a fall in the standing of six out of Ireland's eight universities.

However, Trinity College, Dublin has risen in the rankings table from 67 to 61 internationally.

The National University of Ireland, Galway improved by three places.

QS suggested austerity measures were a major contributing factor to the overall slide.
