Three attacked in Belfast race hate crime

Three men have been attacked in Belfast in what the police have described as a "racially motivated hate crime".

The assault happened at about 03:00 BST on Sunday on the Queen's Bridge, near the city centre.

A 22-year-old man was arrested but later released on bail pending further police enquiries.

DUP MLA Robin Newton condemned the assault and said: "Such attacks besmirch the good name of Belfast and its people."

The East Belfast representative added: "A physical or verbal attack on a person because of the colour of their skin or their nationally is just pure wrong."
