Strabane, County Tyrone, is the fifth worst area in the UK for swearing on Twitter, according to research by University College London.

Researchers monitored all geo-located tweets sent from smartphones in the UK between 28 August to 4 September.

The study took into account more than 1.3 million tweets.

Strabane was the only part of Northern Ireland to feature in the top 10 for swearing. Just under 7% of tweets from the town included profanities.

Redcar and Cleveland in north Yorkshire was the worst area for swearing, while three Scottish areas - Clackmannanshire, East Ayrshire and Falkirk - completed the top five.

The study was carried out for BBC Radio 4's Future Proofing programme.
