Rush hour hijacking in north Belfast

A delivery van was hijacked during rush hour in north Belfast on Wednesday.

A man and a woman were outside their van when two men pushed them out of the way, jumped into the white Ford Transit and drove off. The hijacking happened at about 17:30 GMT.

The van was recovered in the Chief Street area of the city shortly after the incident but a number of goods had been taken.

One of the hijackers was wearing a grey hooded top with white writing.

Police have appealed for witnesses. Det Ch Insp Gary Reid also advised motorists to keep all valuables out of sight and to be vigilant over the Christmas period.

"I would also encourage motorists to consider car security at all times, especially over Christmas and New Year period when traffic is heavy," he said.
