Three arson attacks in south Belfast

Police are investigating a spate of early morning arson attacks in south Belfast after three buildings were set on fire within a two-hour period.

The first attack, on an empty building in Botanic Avenue, was reported to police at about 05.15 GMT on Monday.

At about 07:05 GMT, officers were told of an arson attack in a first floor bedroom of a home on Palestine Street.

About 15 minutes later, police received a report that another property in the street had been set on fire.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland's area commander for south Belfast, Ch Insp Robert Murdie, asked for witnesses to come forward.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have information relating to these incidents or who may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the Palestine Street or Botanic Avenue area to contact detectives at Musgrave Station on 101," he said.
