Ballymena: Stranger 'tried to get child into van'

Police are investigating a "suspicious approach" to a 10-year-old boy by a stranger who tried to get him into his van in Ballymena, County Antrim.

The boy was playing in Wilson Crescent on Friday afternoon when he was approached by a man he did not know.

Insp Trevor Atkinson said the man offered the child money before asking him to get into his van. But instead, the boy ran away to a nearby house.

The officer said the boy was not injured but was "left badly shaken".

"The man is described as having dark hair and wearing a dark coat and was driving a large light-coloured van," Insp Atkinson added.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact police at Ballymena on the non-emergency number 101."
