Alleged hijacker hit by car in North Street, Belfast

A 23-year-old man has been hit by a car he was allegedly attempting to hijack in Belfast.

Police said a man armed with an imitation firearm stepped in front of the car on North Street around 20:30 GMT on Monday.

The man was treated in hospital for a suspected broken leg.

He was later arrested and has been charged with attempted hijacking, disorderly behaviour and possession of a firearm or imitation firearm.

He is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

In a separate incident, a woman has been assaulted by two men in a multi-storey car park in Belfast city centre.

She had just got into her car at Hardcastle Street at about 18:30 GMT on Monday when she was approached by the men, who forced her out of the vehicle and drove off in it.
