Newcastle stabbing: Man charged with attempted murder

A 19-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of two men after a stabbing in Newcastle on Friday night.

Michael Callum Cunningham was also charged with possessing a knife with intent to commit attempted murder.

Two males sustained wounds during the incident on the Bryansford Road at about midnight.

Mr Cunningham appeared at Newtownards Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

A 20-year-old man was also arrested and questioned on suspicion of attempted murder over the same incident.

He was subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Cunnngham will appear in court again on 3 January.

Both men injured in the County Down attack were taken to hospital.
