Man charged with burgling Derry bishop, Seamus Hegarty

A 32-year-old man has been charged with breaking in to the home of the Bishop of Derry, Dr Seamus Hegarty.

The burglary took place early on Friday at the property on the Buncrana Road in the city.

The bishop was home at the time and discovered the break-in some time later.

A number of items are believed to have been taken.

Dr Hegarty has been Bishop of Derry since 1994.

The 32-year-old man will appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday.
