Seven empty homes are burnt by arsonists in Donegal

There have been seven suspected arson attacks on unoccupied houses in Donegal since the start of August.

On Saturday an empty home in Elaghbeg, Bridgend, was completely destroyed by fire.

Irish police have said they are investigating whether the attacks are linked.

Garda Inspector David Murphy asked anyone travelling between Bridgend and Buncrana to be especially vigilant and to report anything suspicious.

"In one incident a large amount of farm machinery was destroyed, and a man's livelihood was destroyed.

"The arsonists do not respect the rights of property of the owners, they do not realise the inherent dangers to people who may be in the properties, and also the dangers to themselves."
