Derry teenage arrests 'misguided' - SF

Sinn Fein has criticised the arrest of two teenagers in Londonderry as part of a PSNI operation against dissident republicanism.

A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were detained under anti-terrorism legislation last week, but released unconditionally the following day.

Assembly member Raymond McCartney said the operation was misguided.

A police spokesperson said the suspects were arrested using what was deemed the most appropriate legislation.

Mr McCartney said "arresting a child in this way, and finding that they're released within 24 hours, makes me question the whole tactic.

"I have raised this in the past with the PSNI and I intend to do it again through the DPP and through the Policing Board."
