Man jailed for assault on partner
A 43-year-old Derry man has been jailed for 11 months and been banned from entering the Fountain estate after he assaulted his partner.
Thomas McNair admitted slapping his ex-partner in the face at their home in Kilfennan last August.
Londonderry Magistrates court was told that McNair was arrested after his 10-year-old daughter rang the police and reported the assault.
A ten year restraining order was also placed on McNair.
The District Judge, Barney McElholm, said he was "deeply concerned" that McNair had dismissed the assault as a "Mickey Mouse offence."
Mr McElholm also said that either the police or the prosecution service should inform McNair's former partner of his prison release date.
