Derry man accused of assault had 225 convictions

A man with 225 previous convictions has been remanded in custody, accused of assaulting his partner on Thursday.

Kevin Conaghan, 38, from Northland Road in Londonderry was also charged with causing criminal damage.

A police officer opposed bail and said the defendant was a prolific offender and there was a domestic history with the couple dating back to 2005.

Conaghan was refused bail and was remanded in custody to appear again in March.

The officer told Londonderry Magistrates' Court that police attended the address in the city where the woman told them she had been assaulted by the defendant.

The woman had swelling and bruising to her face, a dislodged tooth and injuries to her hand.
