Death threat suspended sentence

A street drinker who threatened to slit the throat of a project worker who works with alcoholic men has been given a three month jail sentence, suspended for two years.

Damien Mahoney, 48, from Damien House in Foyle Road, Londonderry, pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening to kill the project worker on Sunday.

He also admitted assaulting the same man last week.

After that assault Mahoney was ordered not to return to Damien House.

However he returned there on Sunday and when he was stopped by police officers he said he was going to slit the injured party's throat.

As well as the suspended sentence Mahoney was order to pay £100 compensation to his victim.
