Girl scout, 16, airlifted from Donegal mountain

A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being airlifted from Glenveagh National Park in County Donegal on Saturday after she injured her leg.

The girl, who is a member of a Letterkenny scouting group, was on the first day of a three-day sponsored walk.

She dislocated her knee while walking through rough ground.

Brian Murray from Donegal Mountain Rescue said it would have taken over six hours to carry her out on foot.

"She was in a lot of pain and some shock so we felt it was important that she was taken from the area as soon as possible," he said.

The girl was flown to Sligo General Hospital for treatment.
