Recruitment starts for Londonderry radiotherapy centre
The Western Health Trust has begun recruiting more than 200 staff to run the new cancer centre at Altnagelvin Hospital.
Design work has already started on the £50 million unit which is due to open in 2016.
Around a hundred people attended a public meeting on Monday night to hear more about the plans.
The Trust's Chairman, Gerard Guckian, said he was confident the process will be completed in time for the opening.
"We want to hit the ground running and operate from day one. We will be operating a full timeline of staff and we are already talking to the universities to make sure the places are there for training.
"We are absolutely confident we will be able to recruit and retain the staff.
"This project means so much to so many people now, given the twists and turns that have been in its history already.
Mr Guckian said it will also be a welcome boost to the economy.
"These are very high value jobs. 220 which will be sustained for the future."
