Three men arrested after Londonderry crash

Three men have been arrested after a car crash left a Londonderry taxi driver in hospital.

The incident happened on the Ballyarnett Road at about 03:30 GMT on Saturday.

The driver had to be cut from the wreckage of the car and was treated for head and arm injuries.

Donegal Gardai arrested two men, while an an 18 year old man arrested in Derry by the PSNI has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Brian Boyle from Thornhill Taxis said the collision happened at a junction on the Ballyarnett Road.

"The car spun around four or five times before it ended up toppling," he said.

"Anybody sitting in the back of that car would have been killed.

"The driver was a heartbeat away from losing his life.

Mr Boyle said the driver uses one of the official cars for the City of Culture.

"He was enjoying being part of the events on Thursday when the big announcement was made for City of Culture.

"He is a family man. He has three children and grandchildren and all he is interested in is spending time with his family."
