Strabane family firm is to close with loss of 16 jobs

A Strabane family run business is to close its doors with the loss of 16 jobs.

Painting and decorating firm Johnston and McCrory has been operating since 1974.

Strabane Sinn Fein councillor, Dan Kelly, has been speaking to some of the workers.

"Johnston and McCrory has been a long-standing company which has provided much employment in this area down through the years.

"Many of the 16 workers who received this news on Monday morning had been with the company for a large part of their working lives.

"Understandably, the workers I have spoken to are numb and devastated to have been told that their jobs have been terminated with immediate effect.

"Workers had already accepted a substantial cut in wages while they had been on a three day week because of lack of contracts, but they in no way expected this news.

"They now face into an uncertain future having to deal with immediate financial worries in terms of securing any entitlements due."
