Garbhan Downey takes case against Culture Company

Garbhan Downey, the former director of marketing at Londonderry's Culture Company, is taking an industrial tribunal case against his former employers.

Mr Downey was suspended from his post last October in a row between the Culture Company and Derry City Council.

He said he was officially dismissed last week after an internal hearing.

The Culture Company has said it does not comment on confidential issues relating to individual staff members.

Garbhan Downey's lawyer, Des Doherty, said he was now looking forward to a public airing of Mr Downey's grievance at the industrial tribunal.

"The process that he's been involved in has been tedious," he said.

"It's been tortuous and prolonged and we welcome the termination of that process because we can now deal with matters in a public forum."
