Gerry Smyth awarded £2,500 over USPCA care of seized dogs

A County Fermanagh dog breeder has been awarded £2,500 in a legal action against the Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Gerry Smyth, from Rosslea, brought the case against the USPCA after it seized 46 dogs and had them in its care for six months from October 2006.

Mr Smyth claimed the charity had been negligent in the care of the dogs.

The USPCA did not admit liability and said it settled the claim to protect it from further legal costs.
