Two men charged in connection with dissident republican activity

Two men have appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court on charges linked to dissident republican activity.

Thomas Ashe Mellon, 38, of Rathmore Road, Londonderry, and 28-year-old William McDonnell, from 20 Culdaff Gardens in the city are charged with membership of a proscribed organisation, namely the IRA .

The pair are also charged with possession of items for use in terrorism, while Mr Mellon is further charged with directing a terrorist organisation.

He was remanded in custody while Mr McDonnell was released on continuing bail.
