What the Scottish papers say

Several papers focus on the story of Rangers FC's dispute with the taxman.

The Herald says it understands businessman Craig Whyte will have to take on any responsibility arising from the multi-million pound dispute if he wants to buy the football club.

The Daily Record also covers the story, saying angry Rangers chiefs have denied claims that the club could go bust if they lose their battle with the taxman.

Meanwhile, The Scotsman leads on a House of Commons Treasury select committee report which says the takeover of Halifax Bank of Scotland by Lloyds has created a financial institution that is too "powerful" and is damaging competition in the UK market.

The Press and Journal says the crime rate across the north east of Scotland has dropped dramatically since Grampian Police put its bobbies back on the beat.
