Rugby star Max Evans pleads not guilty to assault

Scottish rugby International Max Evans has pled not guilty to a charge of glassing a man in the face.

Mr Evans, 26, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court accused of assaulting Alisdair McCaig.

The incident was said to have happened at Edinburgh's upmarket nightclub Lulu on George Street in the early hours of Sunday 1 August.

Mr Evans also pled not guilty to a second charge of possessing a glass as an offensive weapon.

Sheriff Celia Sanderson granted Evans bail following the brief appearance on the conditions he did not go to the nightclub or approach or attempt to contact Mr McCaig.

Mr Evans will have to return to court in the new year.
