Teenager killed on M8 motorway named by police

A teenage girl who died after being hit by traffic on the M8 motorway near Edinburgh has been named by police.

Elizabeth Coulter, 19, from Whitburn in West Lothian, was struck by a number of vehicles as she walked near Hermiston Gait retail park.

Police said she was walking on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway when she was hit by a minibus.

The impact threw her over the central reservation and she was then struck by an oncoming car.

Miss Coulter was pronounced dead at the scene and the motorway was closed for about six hours.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 2300 BST on Tuesday, to come forward.
