Lamppost vandals in Fife cause car crash

Police in Glenrothes are appealing for witnesses after two cars crashed into a lamppost which had been laid across a dual carriageway.

No-one was injured in the incident, which happened at 0015 BST on the eastbound lanes of the B921.

Officers said the lamppost had been deliberately placed across the road by vandals, having been removed from a nearby location.

A spokesman said it was the second such incident in the last fortnight.

Ch Insp Derek Finnie said: "Clearly the consequences for a driver of striking large objects in the carriageway are very serious.

"In this incident neither driver was injured but such reckless conduct by the person or persons responsible could easily have led to them being hurt."
