Pedestrian pinned against wall by van

A pedestrian is in a serious condition in hospital after a delivery van mounted a pavement and pinned him against a wall.

The 55-year-old Dunfermline man was trapped against the wall in Nethertown Broad Street in Dunfermline, about 1900 BST on Thursday.

The John Lewis van is believed to have swerved to avoid colliding with a car before hitting the man.

The road was closed until midnight for an investigation.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Margaret Hospital where his condition is critical but stable.

David McCulloch, of Fife Constabulary, said: "My officers are currently trying to piece together the circumstances of this accident and I would appeal to any member of the public who may have witnessed this accident to contact us."
