A man is in police custody following the death of a 21-year-old woman in West Lothian.

Nattalie Muir, from Whitburn, was found fatally injured by a member of the public in Brucefield Drive in the town centre at about 0255 GMT.

Police have appealed for witnesses, in particular the occupants of a red car seen in the area between 0230 GMT and 0330 GMT.

A post-mortem examination to determine how Ms Muir died has taken place.

The discovery of her body resulted in the town's East Main Street, at Brucefield Drive, being cordoned off to allow forensic examiners to assess the scene.

Det Supt Lesley Boal, the officer in charge of the inquiry, said: "We have detained a male in connection with Natalie's death this evening.

"Despite this detention I am still appealing to anyone who was in the area of Brucefield Drive and East Main Street this morning and who may have seen a red car (no further description) particularly between 0230 and 0330 to contact police immediately or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
