Three people have been rescued after two separate fires in Edinburgh and East Lothian.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said a 70-year-old man owed his life to a passing delivery driver who noticed the fire at his Wallyford home.

He got the man to safety in another room of the house until help arrived just before 0830 GMT.

In the capital, two people were taken to hospital after a blaze at a top floor flat in Meadowbank at 1000 GMT.

Two people were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1000 GMT with smoke inhalation.
