Man, 55, hurt in Edinburgh flat blaze

A 55-year-old man was seriously injured and two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a flat in Edinburgh.

The fire was discovered shortly after 0130 GMT in Seafield Road East.

Two police officers who attempted to enter the flat were beaten back by smoke and the injured man was later rescued by firefighters.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where his condition was described as "serious".

Lothian and Borders Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
