Dogs killed and man hurt in Edinburgh fire

A man has been injured and two dogs have died in a fire in north east Edinburgh.

The alarm was raised at midnight in a ground floor, mid terraced flat in Pilrig Cottages.

The injured man, in his late 20s, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Six residents of neighbouring flats were moved out as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters were also called to a suspicious fire in Tranmere Hotel in Haddington, East Lothian at 0500 GMT.

Lothian and Border Fire and Rescue Service said the large fire had spread to both the accommodation and bar areas of the hotel but no-one was hurt.

The blaze was brought under control by 0700 GMT and investigators were at the scene.
