A woman is in hospital with "severe injuries" after falling from a third-floor window at a tenement in Edinburgh.
The 23-year-old, who has not been named, fell on to Broughton Road at about 0240 BST and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
Lothian and Borders Police closed the road to conduct an investigation into the incident.
It is unclear whether the woman jumped or fell.
The woman is now in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Det Insp Matt Richards, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around the time that this woman was found to get in touch to help us establish the circumstances.
"It may be that someone on their way home from a night out, or who perhaps lives locally, saw or heard something that can help officers piece together exactly what happened.
"We would also ask any taxi drivers who may have been working in the area early this morning to get in touch.
"Officers are continuing inquiries in Broughton Road, and I would ask anyone with information to contact them, or to call Lothian and Borders Police."
