A man has appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with murdering a 27-year-old father in a flat.

Sean Kitchener, 26, from Burntisland, was charged with killing Barry McLean in the Abbots View area of the town on Saturday evening.

He made no plea and no declaration and was remanded in custody.

In a statement issued through Fife Constabulary, the dead man's parents, Alan and Petrina McLean, said they were devastated by their loss.

They added: "Barry was exceptionally close to his parents, brother and sister, and was a devoted partner and father.

"He was an outgoing and hard-working lad with strong family values.

"He will be deeply missed as a son, grandson, brother, nephew, partner, father and friend."

Mr Kitchener was also charged with three separate counts of assault.
