Police in Edinburgh hunt armed robber

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at an off-licence.

Detectives said that a 25-year-old woman was working alone in the Appellation Wines store on Dalry Road when a man entered and pointed a handgun at her before demanding money.

The woman handed over more than £100 to the man, who was wearing a black raincoat and a balaclava.

The robbery happened at about 2030 BST on Thursday.

Police described the man as aged between 40 and 50 years old, about 5ft 6in tall, with thick eyebrows and a Scottish accent.

He was wearing blue jeans and was carrying a black and grey rucksack on his back.

The man was last seen heading along Richmond Terrace.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "This was a terrifying experience for the young woman working within the store and we are now carrying out enquiries to identify the man responsible for the robbery.

"Anyone who remembers seeing a man matching the description of the suspect in the Dalry area is asked to contact police immediately."
