A man with frizzy dark hair and a black beard who sexually attacked a female worker in an Edinburgh graveyard is being sought by police.

The 23-year-old woman was in North Merchiston Cemetery, by Ardmillan Terrace, when she was approached by the man, who made sexual remarks.

He pushed her to the ground and struggled with her before running off towards the east side of the cemetery.

The incident happened on Monday at about 14:00.

The man is white, 5ft 5ins tall, in his late 20s to early 30s, of fat build, with frizzy dark hair and a black beard.

He wore a dark top, and light coloured trousers or grey tracksuit bottoms.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "While the victim was not badly injured, she was understandably shaken as a result of her ordeal, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the suspect.

"Anyone who was in the area of North Merchiston Cemetery on Monday afternoon, who noticed anyone acting suspiciously there, should contact police.

"Similarly, anyone else who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has any other information that can assist our inquiries, should also get in touch."
