OAP 'serious' after car hits bus in Edinburgh

An elderly woman has been seriously injured after the car she was driving hit a double decker bus.

The crash happened on the westbound A70 Lanark Road, near the junction with Woodhall Drive in the Juniper Green area of Edinburgh, at about 15:45 on Thursday.

The 83-year-old was travelling alone in a blue Nissan Note.

Police said she hit a wall before colliding with a number 44 bus, operated by Lothian Buses.

She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be treated for her injuries which were described as "serious".

The road was closed to allow officers to carry out inquiries and police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
