Salvatore Sivero jailed for raids on two shops in Edinburgh

A 29-year-old man who carried out two robberies in Edinburgh within three hours of each other has been jailed for five years.

Salvatore Sivero robbed the Shell service station on Glasgow Road just before 04:00 on 19 July last year.

He was also convicted of assaulting and robbing Mohammed Aslam at his shop in Brunswick Road at 06:50.

Sivero held a knife against Mr Aslam's throat, hit him on the head and left him with injuries to his hand.

Sivero was sentenced to five years in prison for the Shell robbery and a further three-year sentence to run consecutively for robbing the convenience store.

A police spokesman said: "Lothian and Borders Police is committed to building safer communities by tackling knife crime and robustly dealing with those found to be in possession of a weapon.

"Today's sentence highlights the combined efforts of Lothian and Borders Police and the Crown Office to bring knife offenders to justice."
