Bones discovered near Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace are believed to be human, according to police.

Forensic tests are being carried out on the remains which were found at the bottom of Salisbury Crags.

Initial reports also suggest they are not recent, although the exact age of the bones is not yet known.

The remains were discovered by a hillwalker on Friday. The area has been cordoned off by Lothian and Borders Police while investigations take place.
