A cat has died after being shot in Edinburgh, police have said.

One-year-old Paolo was found seriously injured by his owner at her home in Saughtonhall Avenue on Wednesday after being outside between 14:00 and 17:15.

An examination by a vet established the animal had been shot - possibly by an airgun - and had a pellet lodged in his chest. He died the following evening.

Officers have appealed for anyone who may know what happened to get in touch.
