Two people have been detained by police following claims a child was dangled upside down by his legs in an Edinburgh shopping centre.

Police went to Edinburgh's Ocean Terminal following reports from shoppers of a "domestic incident".

A man and a woman have been detained over the incident at 16:20 on Monday where the three-year-old boy was held upside down by his legs.

However, the child was not dangled over a balcony.

A police spokesman said: "Lothian and Borders Police responded to Ocean Terminal at about 16:20 on Monday 30 April following reports of concern for a child.

"A three-year-old boy was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital as a precaution and a man and woman are currently being detained.
