Man dies after being hit by taxi in Edinburgh

A man has died in hospital after being struck by a taxi in Edinburgh.

The 22-year-old was knocked down on Old Dalkeith Road, near the junction with Ferniehill Drive, at about 00:10 on Sunday.

A male doctor, who was passing by, gave the man medical treatment until an ambulance crew arrived at the scene.

The man died from his injuries on Monday afternoon. The police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "We are trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and are keen to hear from anyone who can assist.

"Motorists or pedestrians who remember seeing the man before the collision are asked to contact police immediately.

"We would also ask for the doctor who originally administered medical treatment to come forward and speak with officers."
