Power cut hits 40,000 Edinburgh homes and businesses

Electricity has now been restored to about 40,000 homes and businesses in Edinburgh following a power cut.

Film enthusiasts were among those plunged into darkness for a short time at one of the Edinburgh Film Festival's venues, Cineworld in Fountainbridge.

The fault happened in a substation in Telford Road and affected the west of Edinburgh.

Scottish Power said the fault happened at 12:45 and power to most homes was restored by 13:00.
