81-year-old assaulted and robbed in Dalry area of Edinburgh

An 81-year-old man has been assaulted and robbed in the Dalry area of Edinburgh.

He was returning to his flat on Dalry Road on Saturday when two men followed him into the common stair.

The victim, who walks with the aid of a zimmer frame, was pushed against a wall by his attackers.

They took some money from him before running off, leaving their victim uninjured.

Det Sgt Stuart Blair of Lothian and Borders Police said: "Thankfully the victim was not hurt during this incident, however this was an utterly despicable crime committed by two men who took advantage of an older person with mobility issues.

"We want to catch those responsible as soon as possible and believe the public might hold the key in helping us find these criminals."

The first suspect was described as being a white male in his mid-20s, about 5ft 9in tall and with a local accent.

At the time of the incident he was wearing jeans and an orange or yellow coloured jumper or tracksuit top.

The second suspect was also a white male aged in his mid-20s, about 5ft 9in tall with short dark hair.
