A new Gaelic primary school in Edinburgh has been named 'Bun-sgoil Taobh na Páirce' or 'Parkside Primary School'.

It will take the place of the former Bonnington Primary School and open its doors next August.

Registrations for next year's P1 intake will begin in December when a new head teacher will also be appointed.

The current Tollcross Primary Gaelic Unit is at full capacity, with 221 in the nursery and primary classes.

Extensive £3.53m refurbishment work is under way at the school.

Paul Godzik, Edinburgh City Council's children and families convener, said: "Parkside Primary School will be a very welcome addition to our list of schools and we are already looking forward to it opening its doors next August.

"I think 'Parkside' is a good choice and I'd like to thank all the staff, pupils and teachers involved in the naming of the school."
