Santa hat man attacks woman, 78, in Edinburgh
A man wearing a flashing Santa hat who shoved an elderly woman to the ground in Edinburgh causing her a head injury is being sought by police.
The 78-year-old woman was walking home from a function with her husband at 23:20 on Monday outside the Rhema Church on Dean Bridge.
They walked past two men wearing Santa hats who were sitting at the church door when she was pushed from behind.
One of the men tried to steal her handbag but fled empty-handed.
The woman hit her head as she fell and sustained a "significant" head injury.
She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh then later released.
Both men were described as being in their late teens, and the attacker was wearing a bomber jacket.
Det Sgt Richard Creanor, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "This was an opportunistic and entirely unprovoked assault which has left an elderly woman injured and shaken.
"Both men were wearing distinctive festive hats and this key detail might jog someone's memory who has vital information about their identity.
"I would appeal to anyone who might recognise the description of the men, or who thinks they might know who they are, to get in touch immediately."
