Arts figures want Israeli show at the Edinburgh Fringe cancelled
A number of leading arts figures are calling for the cancellation of an Israeli production which is scheduled to be staged at the Edinburgh Fringe.
They say the show by an Israeli theatre company should not go ahead while Israel is attacking Gaza.
Incubator Theatre's show The City is described as a contemporary and darkly comic hip hop fable.
But 50 leading figures from the arts, including national poet Liz Lochhead, said it was inappropriate.
Other critics of the production include writer Alasdair Gray and playwright David Greig.
The venue has defended the production, saying that the theatre company is an agent for peace and dialogue in Israel.
In a statement, it argues that it is the job of the Fringe to promote freedom of expression for all artists, from whatever creed or nation.
